If the contactor relay was the problem would that not be permanent?

I now have my breaker box wired with contactor relays for each and every circuit and the contactor relays setup for remote control so that instead of shutting everything down for just an hour I can shut everything down including such electric appliances as the electric water heater when I leave for work.
